About the Australian Public Interest Alliance
The Australian Public Interest Alliance Inc. (APIA) is a not-for-profit organisation established to act as a coordinating and stewardship body for public-interest initiatives in Australia.
Why APIA Was Formed
APIA was formed to provide a stable, independent organisational structure for public-interest education initiatives in Australia, particularly in areas related to health, wellbeing, and the social and environmental factors that influence them.
Many public-interest projects begin with strong intent but lack the governance, continuity, and stewardship required to remain accurate, accessible, and useful over time. Without an accountable organisational framework, resources can become outdated, fragmented, or unavailable.
APIA exists to address this gap by supporting the development and ongoing maintenance of evidence-informed, non-commercial information services that improve public understanding, reduce confusion, and help individuals and communities navigate complex issues using reliable, publicly available sources.

Coordination & Stewardship
APIA acts as a coordinating and stewardship body for public-interest initiatives aligned with its mandate.
Support, Not Replacement
APIA’s role is not to replace existing organisations or services, but to support, contextualise and help steward initiatives intended to serve the broader community.
Practical Support
This may include facilitating access to information, supporting educational content, and providing an organisational home for initiatives operating in the public interest.

Public Benefit Commitment
The Alliance operates for public benefit and does not distribute profits or assets to private individuals. Any surplus generated through permissible activities is applied solely toward furthering APIA’s stated objectives.

Independence and Guiding Principles
APIA is independent and non-partisan. It does not engage in political campaigning, commercial marketing or advocacy for private interests. Its work is guided by principles of transparency, integrity and responsibility to the public.
